Dealing with the Stress of Interpreting in Challenging Situations
Presenter: Stacie Bickel!
Vicarious trauma? Secondary Trauma Stress? Compassion Fatigue? Burn Out? What are all these things?
Interpreting is stressful work in any setting and because of the nature of the work we often face difficult and unexpected situations. The stress of those challenging situations can have effects in the moment as well as long-term. This workshop will offer information and tools to help interpreters prepare to deal with difficult situations, take care of themselves following difficult jobs, and recognize and respect their own limitations.
Even in the best of situations interpreting is challenging and stressful work. This workshop will look at how that stress can affect individuals and look at how interpreters can develop a plan to deal with all that stress.
MCDHH is an Approved RID CMP Sponsor for Continuing Education Activities. This Professional Studies program is offered for .2 CEUs for interpreters at the beginner-advanced knowledge content level.
