We get asked a lot, ‘why should I join MO-RID?  What’s it going to do for me?’
The short answer is MO-RID can do nothing without the ideas, time, and talents of our members.  Here’s a few things we’ve accomplished since our founding in 2010:

Supported 2 classes of educational interpreters with the Scholars program – represented MO interpreters’ interests at the regional and national level to RID – lobbied to get the NIC and CI/CT certifications equivalent to a Master – hosted a community movie night at MSD to raise $ for the L.E.A.D. Institute – brought “See What I’m Saying” documentary director Hilari Scarl to Fulton for a mini-conference – brought CDI Nic Zappos to Columbia for a -long mini-conference and entertainment in collaboration with the Deaf community’s New Horizons initiative and gave all profits to them – sent a letter of concern to a MO hospital advertising interpreter positions at the Basic level – provided free online professional development to new/renewing members – donated MO-themed gift baskets to the RID regional and national conferences for fundraising – hosted retreats for board members – provided free coffee and donuts at our quarterly meeting – offer remote link-in to our meetings – in process of bringing back the dance to the 2016 Missouri Interpreters Conference/free admission for members. Got some ideas to make Missouri a better place for interpreters, and ultimately, the Deaf community?  JOIN US.

Give back to our community.

Join the board or a committee today.

Ask not what MO-RID can do for you, but ask what you can do for MO-RID, right?  This is a member-driven organization and we can’t reach our potential without the support of a robust group of volunteers.

At the annual business meeting, president Tara Mavis and vice president Lisa Bolding Ballenger were reelected.  However, we still have three open positions:

  • Central Region Representative
  • Southwest Region Representative
  • Member at Large

We are also in need of chairs and/or members for all of our committees:

  • BylawsUncle Sam
  • Fundraising
  • Media
  • Membership
  • Professional Development

Please contact vice president Lisa Bolding Ballenger to offer your services.  We’re in the Show-Me State — let’s show Missouri our commitment to our community by actively participating in our only professional organization!
